Appointments
How do you make an appointment at The Newton Medical Centre?
We aim to offer personal care and would encourage you to see the same Doctor each time. However, with many issues, you may be helped quicker by other members of staff or a different service.
If you want to help quickly, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself before you book an appointment with a doctor.
Patient co-ordinators may ask your questions to help you get the best treatment quicker. The same confidentiality bounds them as doctors. You may find it easier to start the process online through our website or the NHS app.
Can I treat the condition myself or through a pharmacist?
Now all the knowledge is at your fingertips. Itās worth reading about your symptoms on the NHS website or Patient.info. They provide great information which we can vouch for! You can often treat yourself as well as a doctor today rather than waiting to be seen.
Can I go straight to a specialist service?
There is now increasing availability of direct access to more specialised care through the NHS without seeing a doctor. Click here to see if you can go straight to a specialist (for example a physio or a psychologist).
Is it really a clinical issue?
Many problems, like getting hold of medicine you already use or a letter, are quickly dealt with through our website or our Patient co-coordinators. The NHS app now allows you to track many of your referrals and see much of your records, both from the GP practice and the hospital. You can read more about this here.
You can get a sick note here.
You can ask our admin team question here.
Do I need to see the doctor?
The clinical staff is one team. Our Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists and Healthcare Assistants provide a mix of skills that complement and often the exceed that of a doctor. We have inserted a tool here to help you understand who does what.
Find out who is the right person to see. (Thereās nothing so frustrating coming to see the wrong person!)
When can I see the doctor?
Due to COVID, we provide telephone consultations or online consultations before any face to face appointments. You can even ask for a video consultation.Ā This is to protect you and other patients from the risk of infection.
We ask that you ensure you are available at their allotted time to take the call. Messages will not be left on answer machines to maintain confidentiality.
There are occasions when an emergency may delay a doctor. We will try to keep you informed of any delay and would appreciate your patience and understanding when this happens.
